Jim Carrey, known for his dynamic performances, is making a comeback to acting with his reprisal of Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Speaking at the movie’s premiere in London, Carrey shared his reasons for returning to the franchise after a two-year hiatus.
“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch,” Carrey quipped during an interview with the Associated Press. The actor, known for his humor, also joked, “And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
This return marks a change from Carrey’s earlier statement in April 2022 when he hinted at retiring from acting. While promoting the second Sonic the Hedgehog movie, he told Access Hollywood, “I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink… I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”
When asked about his past comments, Carrey reflected with his trademark humor, saying, “That might have been hyperbole.”
Sonic the Hedgehog 3, based on the beloved Sega video game, is set to hit theaters on December 20, distributed by Paramount Pictures.
