Fran Drescher, the president of the organization, released a statement thanking broadcast journalists who have bravely shared updates on the destruction caused by the wildfires while working in challenging conditions.

The statement read, “I want to thank and recognize our broadcast journalist members who are out every day amidst flames, smoke, and fiery embers, battling to bring this important news to the world.”

It continued, “The destruction caused by these blazes and the loss of life and homes has been gut-wrenching, and our hearts go out to all affected. However, we knew we could do more. We hope this pledge helps alleviate suffering and supports those impacted in rebuilding their lives after this calamity.”

Drescher also revealed that he, too, had been affected by the fires and deeply sympathizes with those facing the tragedy. He added that the stressful times had compromised immune systems, emphasizing the importance of staying healthy while combating the disaster.

Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA and the SAG-AFTRA Foundation have previously worked to support those in need whenever the state has faced a disaster.

According to reports, the organization will use the donated funds to assist members who lost their homes in the fires, including the affected journalists.
