Sandra Bullock warns fans against online scammers using her name
Sandra Bullock is warning fans about social media scammers impersonating her. In a statement, the “Two Weeks’ Notice” star expressed deep concern for both her family’s safety and the innocent people being targeted. While she won’t comment further, she is actively assisting law enforcement in handling the situation.
“Please be aware that I do not participate in any form of social media. Any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me are fake accounts and have been created for financial gain or to exploit people around me,” added Bullock, 60.
The actress addressed the issue after her younger sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, shared a message on Sunday, February 2, revealing that numerous people were impersonating her online.
Bullock-Prado shared that she spends a lot of her time reporting fake accounts and handling strange, frightening emails sent to her business and home from men who believe they have a connection with her famous older sister through one of her many fake IDs.
Bullock-Prado shared screenshots of the fake accounts impersonating her and revealed that she had reported the handles both online and to a Meta representative. However, to her surprise, the accounts remained active. She informed her followers that the account she was currently using was her only social media account, focused solely on baking, cooking, animals, and gardening.
In her warning to her followers and Sandra Bullock’s fans, Bullock-Prado referenced a recent incident where scammers impersonating Brad Pitt swindled a French woman out of over $800,000. The scammers convinced her that she was in a romantic relationship with Pitt and that he needed financial help to pay medical bills.
The French woman shared with the press that, although she was initially skeptical, her lack of social media experience made it difficult for her to distinguish between real and fake accounts.
