Shah Rukh Khan reacts to a viral video of professors dancing Jhoome Jo Pathaan
Pathaan has dominated the box office. The hook step of Jhoome Jo...
Pathaan debuted and became a box-office sensation one month ago today. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer broke the first-ever Rs. 1000 crores globally (without China release) and Rs. 500 crores nett in India for a Bollywood film, shattering nearly every box office record as we know it. The movie has made a tonne of money for its producers, Yash Raj Productions.
Pathaan would generate staggering recovery of more than 650 crore rupees from all sources of income. It surpasses Aamir Khan’s Dangal to have the highest Bollywood film recovery ever. 450 crores of rupees were recovered from Dangal, excluding the money made in China. Credible sources estimate that out of the Rs. 1125 crores in sales in China, Dangal’s revenue there is somewhere between Rs. 120 and Rs. 150 crores.
This results in a total recovery for Dangal of Rs. 570–600 crores, which is now surpassed by Pathaan‘s incredible amount of Rs. 660 crores and above. No other Hindi film has ever reached the 400 crore rupee revenue recovery mark, making this achievement unique in the business. With a recovery of little around 400 crores rupees, Bajrangi Bhaijaan came close.
In terms of Pathaan‘s revenue recovery, the original Hindi version brought in a distributor share of Rs. 255 crores in India, and the dubbed Telugu and Tamil versions brought in an extra Rs. 9 crores. The movie is anticipated to bring in an additional Rs. 5 crore from the Hindi version, bringing the whole revenue in India to approximately Rs. 269 crore.
The film is anticipated to make roughly $48.50 million (Rs. 397 crores) overseas, of which an estimated Rs. 168 crores would be contributed by the distributor. The entire revenue from movies is Rs. 437 crores. Pathaan will also make an additional Rs. 225 crores or more from non-theatrical revenue sources including satellite, digital, and music rights in addition to these gains.
Apart from Shah Rukh Khan’s remuneration, the film’s production and release costs are in the region of Rs. 250 crores. Shah Rukh Khan will share in the profits with Yash Raj and will deposit a sizable sum of money into the bank, most likely in the range of Rs. 200 crores.
Later this month, my colleague Himesh Mankad will offer a detailed evaluation for a more in-depth examination of the economics of the movie.
