After more than 30 years, Satish Kaushik, who first captured our hearts as Calendar from Mr. India, is still entertaining us. And the performer makes it a point to give each character he plays a distinct personality. In the ZEE5 movie Chhatriwali, he most recently portrayed a condom factory owner wearing a wig. His upcoming film, Emergency, is being directed by Kangana Ranaut. After the movie’s release, Satish spoke and revealed how he makes sure his characters are memorable. He also spoke candidly about the importance of relevance and his admiration for the current generation of filmmakers.

I appreciate the compliment, thank you. I appreciate you. When your job is something you are passionate about, you need to look after yourself. Even Akshay Kumar is so motivating; he claims that if a person doesn’t get one hour to themselves each day, everything else is meaningless. You must maintain yourself modernised, reinvented, and relevant if you want to continue producing quality work. Only if you take care of yourself is that possible. I’m on that trip and make an effort to stay in shape. You only pay attention to mental health, but we also need to maintain our physical fitness. I continue to work on films and web shows, and I have a lot planned. It becomes your obligation to uphold the perception that people have of you.

‘young generation ki yahi baat mujhe bahut pasand hai – himmat bahut hai inme’.  I always attempt to make the character’s USP a one-liner that will make it memorable. These are some of my most well-known characters, including Kunjbihari, Calendar, Muthu Swamy, and Pappu Pager. The parts used to be louder, but now there are roles that are more realistic and quiet, like the one in Chhatriwali. Since I’ve been working since the 1980s, I sincerely feel like I belong to an older generation, therefore I asked the director if I may use the sentence. In order to collaborate with me, I want to pay honour to the younger generation in my discussion. I made up the line on the spot and was confident she would like it. I’m sorry

The sole rule is that you must comprehend life, these people, and the circumstances. Experience teaches you this. Since I’ve been performing comedy for so long, I’ve attempted to give each character a distinct personality. Every character has received a lot of respect and dignity from me. Comedy is challenging because you need to have the appropriate timing, excellent language skills, and a solid grasp of the characters. Check to determine whether your walking, gestures, or speech contain any humour. We are from tiny places where we have experienced daily life firsthand.

When I play an actor, I leave my directing abilities at home. The advantage of having a director who is also an actor is that they can explain the subtleties and specifics of the performance. Kangana attends to even the smallest things, such as a slight smile and slight bending while speaking. She is a skilled performer, who is the only one who can tell you such things.
