Sara Ali Khan admitted that she and her younger brother, Ibrahim Ali Khan, had tried to use their status as children of divorced parents against them while marketing their new movie, Gaslight. She revealed that when they were younger, she and Ibrahim had approached their parents, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, knowing that they might feel remorse about the divorce. She also made light of the fact that, at her current age, she still engages in it occasionally.

After 13 years of marriage, Saif and Amrita separated in 2004. They got married in January 1991. Ibrahim was born on March 5, 2001, and Sara was born on August 12, 1995. Two children, Taimur Ali Khan, 6, and Jehangir Ali Khan, 2, were born to Saif and actor Kareena Kapoor in 2012.

Sara was asked if she and her brother had ever gaslit their parents in an interview with Bollywood Bubble for her next Disney+ Hotstar movie. The aspiring actor acknowledged doing so. We occasionally played the victim card, she said. “Sometimes, we played the victim card. Like the obvious way, in my family dynamic. Like, ‘Abba is not here mummy, give this to us,’ at the age of 11, or, ‘Abba, you don’t live with us, give this to us,’ at the age of 15.”

Sara added in jest that she still does it occasionally. “Replace 11 and 15 with 26,” she chuckled. She and her brother were raised by their mother following the divorce. She had said, “Even at the age of nine-year-old, I think I had the maturity to see that these two people living together in our home were not happy. And suddenly, they were much happier living in two new homes. For instance, my mom, who I don’t think had laughed in 10 years, was suddenly happy, beautiful, and excited, like she deserves to be. Why would I be unhappy if I have two happy parents in two happy homes?”

Sara plays a young woman who returns home to find her father missing in Pawan Kripalani’s film Gaslight. No one appears to believe her despite her suspicions of wrongdoing. The thriller also stars Vikrant Massey and Chitrangda Singh.
