The veteran’s passing is being lamented by the radio broadcasting community. Tim Gough, a British radio broadcaster, passed away on air on October 24 at the age of 55. In accordance with a press release from GenX Radio Suffolk, Gough is believed to have had a heart attack at his Lackford, Suffolk, home around 7:50 a.m.
Tim was described in the statement as “an extremely seasoned and highly accomplished broadcaster with an army of admirers for his daily show.” “He leaves radio and Suffolk County in a very sad place. Beyond words, the entire GenX Radio family is in shock and devastation.”
GenX Radio Suffolk’s Managing Director, James Hazell, referred to Gough as a veteran broadcaster with over 40 years of experience and expressed the radio station’s “heartbreak” over the news of his passing.
As I worked closely with Tim for more than 30 years, Hazell added, “To know Tim personally was to know a kind, loving, entertaining guy who myself and my family loved greatly. I’m sure the hundreds of heartfelt words that have been sent to his family have brought them much comfort, and they have requested privacy during this terrible time.
Gough had stepped out of retirement, according to Hazell, to host the morning program and “bring local commercial radio back to his beloved Suffolk.”
According to the article, Gough’s late host’s “large personality” shone through on air during the station’s Saturday afternoon sports show, according to a former coworker of his named Stephen Foster, who had known Gough since the mid-1980s at Radio Orwell.
“I’m extremely heartbroken to learn of his abrupt demise,” Foster told the publication. “Suffolk has lost one of its sweetest guys.”
Gough took the time to mentor others just starting out in the field before moving on to work at other stations in the UK, including Smooth Radio Nottingham and Leicester Sound.
Radio personality Gaynor Marshall told the news, “He took me under his wing while I was at Smooth Radio Nottingham.” Marshall described the loss as a “terrible shock” and said that the man was “very kind and all around great.”
Mother, brother, sister, and son all survive Gough.
