Days of Our Lives‘ traditional Christmas program paid tribute to the late John Aniston by featuring him in his final episode. Beginning the episode on Monday, December 26, Aniston’s Victor Kiriakis questioned Greg Rikaart’s Leo Stark’s (played by Greg Rikaart) presence in his home and demanded that he leave. Following their discussion, the characters come to a compromise, and the program travels back in time to emphasize Victor’s legacy.

Viewers got to experience replays of some of Victor’s most famous storylines and how he developed throughout the course of the series in a flashback sequence. His character sailed off into the distance as the show came to a close.

The Greece native, whose passing at the age of 89 was reported by Jennifer Aniston, joined Days in 1970. He initially appeared on the show as Eric Richards, but left the following year to work on other endeavors. John started playing Victor when he returned to the long-running series 15 years later. He appeared on the show for another 36 years, intermittently. The performer was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2017 for his efforts.

The venerable show ended its run there in September and moved to the streaming site Peacock for all new episodes. The 2022 Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award was handed to the Search for Tomorrow actor by Jennifer in June.

“This is truly a special moment for me. It’s an opportunity to not only pay tribute to a true icon in the daytime television world, but it’s also a chance to recognize the lifelong achievements of a great and well-respected actor, who also happens to be my dad,” the Friends alum, 53, said during the ceremony. “For over 30 years, his dedication to that show has gained him the respect and admiration of his fellow actors, deep friendships, and thrilled millions of fans around the world. His career is literally the definition of lifetime achievement.”

In November, the Morning Show star revealed her father’s passing.

“Sweet papa…⁣ John Anthony Aniston. You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew,” the Horrible Bosses actress wrote via Instagram at the time, alongside several sweet childhood photos. “I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace – and without pain. … I’ll love you till the end of time💔⁣.”

John is survived by his wife Sherry Rooney, his 33-year-old son Alexander, and Jennifer. The West Wing alum also became a stepfather to Rooney’s son from a previous marriage, John Melick, after they wed in June 1984.
