Meghann Fahy admits that “Something going to happen”
Meghann Fahy has her own interpretations of the White Lotus. The actress, who played fan favorite Daphne in season two of the HBO anthology series, is disclosing what she believes actually transpired between her character and Ethan (Will Sharpe), her husband’s college buddy, in that enigmatic cave, following that crazy season two finale.
“I definitely think something happened,” Fahy told Variety on Dec. 13. “I don’t know what exactly happened, but I do know that it was something. Honestly, at that moment, I think Daphne just saw this broken man and wanted to do something to make him feel more empowered in her own strange way. I really don’t think that she led him there to get back at Cameron or Harper.”
Even while she doesn’t know precisely what happened, the Bold Type alum said she thinks it was “certainly something sexual, for sure.”
And Fahy is adamant that whatever occurred wasn’t merely retaliation against her husband Cameron (Theo James), whom Ethan thought had an affair with his wife Harper (Aubrey Plaza). Fahy, however, asserts that Harper’s treachery was virtually greater than that of her spouse.
“Someone said something really interesting the other day, which was like, do you think that part of Daphne’s sadness comes from her betrayal from Harper? I was like, ‘Totally,'” she explained. “I think she’s been through this with Cameron who knows how many times, but I think she really thought that Harper was maybe her friend, or wanted her to be. She has that vulnerable moment in Episode 3 where they’re in Noto, and she talks about how she has a hard time keeping female friends and stuff. So, I do think that was part of the experience of it.”
And even though The White Lotus fans are fervently hoping Daphne will return for season three, she won’t be going back to Sicily. Season three, according to creator Mike White, may follow a different group of tourists visiting Asia (potentially the Maldives, which Daphne herself mentioned in the finale).
Following the finale, he said in a behind-the-scenes video, “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex.” “The third season, in my opinion, might take a satirical and humorous look at death as well as Eastern spirituality and religion. A second visit to White Lotus seems like it could be a rich tapestry.”
The White Lotus seasons one and two are currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
