A murder suspect was detained by the Houston Police Department in relation to the passing of Takeoff, a rapper for the Migos.

Police Chief Troy Finner revealed at a press conference that 33-year-old Patrick Xavier Clark was detained on Thursday and charged with murder. One month had passed since it was first reported that Takeoff, real name Kirsnick Khari Ball, passed away in a shooting on November 1.

The police department also detained Cameron Joshua, 22, who was accused of two charges of illegally possessing a firearm, on November 22. Finner said that Joshua “was there on the scene” and “in possession of a weapon” when questioned about his involvement in the crime, but he did not give any other information. He is a felon, Finner declared.

Before making the accusations public, Finner claimed to have spoken to Takeoff’s mother that morning.

“My prayers continue to go out to her and his entire family, his close friends, the city of Atlanta, and all of Takeoff’s fans around the world. We lost a good man, and I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting him, but everybody — the hundreds of people that I talked to — spoke of what a great individual he was,” Finner said.

“We made a commitment a month ago that we would have the people or the individual who is responsible for the murder of Takeoff in custody,” he continued.

On November 1, Takeoff, 28, was fatally shot in front of a Houston bowling alley in the city center.

When an incident started, Takeoff and Quavo, another rapper from the Migos, were at a private party. Quavo, 31, escaped the encounter unharmed.

Thousands of admirers and close family members packed Atlanta’s State Farm Arena later that month to pay tribute to the late rapper.

At his official Celebration of Life, celebrities like Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Drake, and Quavo of the Migos paid tribute to his legacy while also sharing their own memories and expressions of grief.

“There are no words or sentiments conveyed that could aptly encompass the love so many had for him and the impact he made on this world,” his official obituary, provided by a rep, read. “Takeoff would want the world to see the light in what he created and keep lifting each other up and supporting the creations people put into the world. He’s now up there with the stars he loved so much and remains in all our ethers on a daily basis, living on through his music and the love he brought to so many.”

The rap group, which also included Takeoff’s 30-year-old cousin Offset, also included his uncle Quavo and cousin Takeoff. The Lawrenceville, Georgia-based band had been putting out songs for almost 15 years.

But most recently, it became clear that Takeoff and Quavo were continuing without Offset from fresh albums and promotional materials. Although each member had previously produced solo tracks, the duo continued to collaborate and occasionally went by the moniker “Unc and Phew.”

Intruder, Takeoff’s first solo song, was released in 2017, and The Last Rocket, his debut album, was released in 2018.
