Ryan Seacrest is lifting a glass. The media figure commented on the decision to limit drinking during the network’s yearly New Year’s Eve show, which has gained notoriety for its famous alcohol-related moments. This includes the incident from the previous year when co-host Andy Cohen criticized Seacrest on-air while he hosted Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on a news channel.

Cohen referred to Journey as “Ryan Seacrest’s gang of losers that are performing behind us” after they took the stage during the ABC program. According to the Watch What Happens Live presenter, “If you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you haven’t seen anything, with all due respect. I apologize.”

Seacrest responded to the news channel adjustment by telling Entertainment Weekly on December 26 that he doesn’t “promote drinking when one is on the air.” News sources first announced the change in November.

“I don’t know how that started as a tradition,” he continued, “but it’s probably a good idea [to scale back]”

In addition to discussing his own views on a news program, which is co-hosted by Cohen and Anderson Cooper, Seacrest also discussed his own, drunken thoughts from last year on his New Year’s show. At the time, Seacrest made no public comments in response to Cohen’s jab. (Cohen later expressed regret for his “stupid and intoxicated” actions.)

“There’s some pretty respectable people or at least one, right? I think there’s a serious journalist and then a friend of mine who has a lot of fun, but it’s probably a good idea. Although the viewer probably wishes they would drink more,” Seacrest noted. “But I think they had something to say about my show at one point, which was I’m sure from the alcohol because I don’t think they would say what they said about our performers if they weren’t drinking.”

Due to the fact that you know, I believe our show to be a bigger, broader show, we won’t start drinking until 1:05 in the morning. I might give them some Casa Dragones Tequila tequila to tempt them while they’re on the air.
