The list of 2023 BRIT Awards nominees is available, and it includes many of your favorite international musicians.
The award show made public the list of nominees for the yearly presentation, which is scheduled to take place on February 11 at London’s O2 Arena.
Harry Styles and the up-and-coming combo Wet Leg are at the top of the list this year with four nominations each. Styles, 28, is a candidate for pop/R&B act, an album of the year, song of the year, and artist of the year. Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers’ band, Wet Leg, is competing for a group of the year, best new artist, alternative/rock talent, and record of the year.
The band claimed in a press release that they needed “someone to hold our horses while we get to grips with this wild news, being nominated for a BRIT award is too hard to understand, we never could have thought for our small band to achieve this.”
Global superstars Beyoncé, Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo, and Taylor Swift are competing for international artists this year.
Meanwhile, going up against Styles for artist of the year are Central Cee, George Ezra, Stormzy, and Fred again.
Blackpink, Eliza Rose, Gabriels, Gayle, Jack Harlow, Kojey Radical, Mimi Webb, Nova Twins, and Sam Ryder are among the first-time candidates at this year’s award.
“Being nominated for a BRIT Award is something I’ve been dreaming about since I was 8 years old and I am so, so grateful. I can’t wait to attend and see my name alongside all the other incredible nominees – it will be a real ‘pinch me’ moment,” said Webb in a press release. “I remember seeing Dua Lipa win best new artist in 2018 and being in awe of her – that moment really inspired me to work hard and be the artist I am today. I am so grateful for all the love and support of those who have helped me get here – it feels so much better than I ever imagined.”
Ryder added, “I’m buzzing! I feel like a Golden Retriever that’s won a medal. Whatever happens, to simply be recognized alongside so many amazing artists and peers is incredible. For me, this is truly a reflection of what it’s all about – the music.”
It was the first time a group won the prize when the BRITs named FLO as this year’s rising star supported by BBC Radio 1 in December. The award has previously been won by celebrities including Adele, Florence + The Machine, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding, and more.
Smith, Kim Petras, and Wet Leg have all been confirmed to perform at the event so far.
Later, the nominees for British songwriter of the year and producer of the year will be revealed.
The four genre awards—for alternative/rock artists, dance acts, hip-hop/grime/rap acts, and pop/R&B acts—that were introduced last year will also be back this year.
