“Candy Cane Lane” featured Nick Offerman, Chris Redd, and Robin 

• The major cast for the upcoming comedy has been revealed.

Every sign pointed to Candy Cane Lane being a major project in the works when Prime Video announced last year that it will be the first movie from their three-picture and a first-look deal with Eddy Murphy. Now that the major cast for the upcoming comedy has been revealed, it’s clear that our suspicions were correct. With the addition of veterans like Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, and Chris Redd, Candy Cane Lane will be a gathering of legendary comic book creators. The list also included a few budding stars including Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, and Thaddeus J. Mixson. After Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross and Jillian Bell from Black-ish and Brittany Run a Marathon were the first actors to join the cast.

Although the plot is still largely unknown, we have a general notion of where it’s headed thanks to the addition of these comedic all-stars to the cast. One thing is for sure: there will be plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. The main storyline point that has been made public is that Disney screenwriter Kelly Younger (Raya and the Last Dragon, Encanto) will pen the script. Kelly Younger will be inspired by his own childhood memories of family vacations.

Veteran comedians Offerman, Thede, and Redd have made a profession out of winning over critics with their comic prowess. Offerman gained notoriety for playing Ron Swanson in the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation. Offerman has demonstrated success in a variety of endeavors, including providing voice work for cartoon characters and dabbling in film production.

He has recently embraced serious parts and is now filming the next action thriller Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two. He will also star in the HBO television series The Last of Us, which is based on a computer game. Thede has a multi-year overall deal with HBO and is most known for originating, writing, showrunning, and performing in the Emmy-winning A Black Lady Sketch Show. For Amazon, she is creating the genre-defying horror film Killing It. Emmy-winning SNL alum Redd is the co-creator, writer, and actor of Peacock’s popular comedy series Bust Down.

The three of Walton, Thomas, and Mixson have likewise demonstrated that it is possible to compete in the very competitive world of Hollywood. Walton, whose filmography is quickly growing, is a series regular on Netflix’s #BlackAF and most recently starred in Darby and the Dead on Hulu. Her next projects include Flycatcher and Netflix’s Never Have I Ever. While Mixson has started to receive positive reviews for his work in South of Heaven, Thomas can be seen in Peacock’s television special Would it Kill You to Laugh? Creed III is among his forthcoming credits.

Murphy’s previous partners Brian Grazer and Reginald Hudlin, both of whom he worked with on Boomerang, one of his earlier hits, will reteam for Candy Cane Lane. The movie, which is being directed by Hudlin, has already started shooting in Los Angeles. Along with Imagine Entertainment and Eddie Murphy Productions, Amazon Studios produces.

Candy Cane Lane’s release date hasn’t been announced, but given that it’s touted as a Christmas film, we might not see it until the end of the year. If you need some Murphy right away, though, check out his most recent film, You People, which debuted on Netflix today.
