Max Minghella and their girlfriend Elle Fanning are “in a better place than ever,” a source exclusively tells the new magazine.

The British actor, 37, and the 24-year-old star of The Girl from Plainville are both described as “extremely private people.” The couple has “been serious for a good while,” yet they both agree that keeping their relationship private has “fitted them.”

The insider tells news that the twosome “don’t tend to crop up at the more normal places you’d anticipate a high profile couple” because they’re frequently busy traveling or working. “The [coronavirus] outbreak had a part in that, of course,” the source adds.

After working together in 2018’s Teen Spirit, Minghella’s directorial debut, Fanning and the Handmaid’s Tale actress ignited dating rumors. The director was 32 years old at the time, while the starring actress was 20.

“The age difference isn’t an issue at all,” the insider reveals. “Elle loves how mature and intelligent Max is. He’s a real intellect with a big passion for arts and culture.”

The source claims that the Maleficent actress and her partner have “truly bonded over” their mutual hobbies and professions. After ushering in the New Year together, the couple feels “very strong” in their relationship, and it could not be long until they make a significant change.

“Nobody would be surprised if Max proposes soon,” the insider says. “Elle would most likely love that too, but he’s keeping those cards close to his chest.”

Before the holidays, Fanning and Minghella made a rare red carpet-appearance together for the Babylon premiere in Los Angeles. Three years after their red carpet debut at the 2019 Met Gala, the couple coordinated their looks in all-black for the memorable evening.

At a screening of Teen Spirit in April 2019, Minghella gushed about working with his love, despite the Georgia native and the Internship actor rarely discussing their chemistry. He admitted that he didn’t believe the movie “would be done” without Fanning at the time.

“Genuinely, I’m not being hyperbolic,” the Emmy nominee exclusively told the news. “I don’t think we would have gotten through the shoot, because if we didn’t have one of those shots, the movie wouldn’t cut together, so I’m really grateful to have somebody as brilliant in this kind of dream project.”

Minghella and Kate Mara have previously been connected. In August 2014, Us broke the news that the couple had ended their four-year relationship. Jamie Bell, whom she later married in 2017, was her new love. They have two kids together. Minghella seems to have maintained a close relationship with his ex; the two are even collaborating on a screen adaptation of Ruth Ware’s The Turn of the Key.
