In an interview with Entertainment Tonight that was published on Friday, the actor stated that he would “do anything” for the Hulu spin-off show’s creators, even returning to his How I Met Your Mother from the original CBS series role.

When asked if he would think about being a part of the relaunched series, he told ET, “Those folks changed my life, and I would do whatever they ever asked me to.”

The show HIMYM, in which Josh Radnor’s character Ted (43), tells his children the arduous love story about their mother while navigating adulthood in New York City with his four best friends, one of whom is Marshall, starred Segel in the endearing part. (The program ran from 2005 to 2014).

A spin-off series called How I Met Your Father, which gender-swaps the storyline of the original series, has been approved by Hulu, nearly eight years after the beloved CBS comedy finished its ninth season in 2014. A woman by the name of Sophie (played by Kim Cattrall in the future and Hilary Duff in the 2022 timeline) tells her son the story of how she first met his father.

Cobie Smulders was the first to cross over when she played Robin Scherbatsky in the How I Met Your Father season 1 finale, so if Segel were to make a surprise appearance in the spin-off, he would be in excellent company.

In the most recent episode of the Hulu spin-off Tuesday’s second season, Neil Patrick Harris unexpectedly returned to the role of Barney Stinson.

In that episode, Sophie contacts her mother to express her worries that she is dating her father, which causes her to collide with a car after the call has ended. Viewers quickly learn that Barney is the owner of the car since he exits it and says, “Dude!” (One of the character’s catchphrases from the original series).

However, writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger promise that viewers will see more of Harris as season 2 progresses, so this is just the beginning of his appearance on the program.

According to the show’s makers, Barney will have a “huge impact” on the season’s plot while also revealing to fans where he is in his current life.

According to Aptaker, “we always want to serve two objectives whenever we talk about bringing back a member of the original crew: You want to convey some nuggets about what is going on in their lives, where they’ve landed, and where they’re at.”
