Lisa Marie Presley cause of death remains undetermined

After the Los Angeles coroner “delayed” a decision on Tuesday, Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death is still now unknown.

Speaking on behalf of the L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, Sarah Ardalani said: “Presley was evaluated on Jan. 14 and the cause of death was delayed.”

“Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies,” added Ardalani. “Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.”

On January 12, at the age of 54, Lisa Marie passed away after being taken to a hospital in Los Angeles for what might have been a heart attack.

Her father, Elvis Presley, passed away on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, from cardiac arrhythmia with ventricular fibrillation, a disorder in which the heart beats erratically before stopping, according to a 1977 report in The Washington Post.

Gladys Love Presley, the mother of Elvis, also passed away from heart failure at the young age of 46 in 1958. In 1979, Vernon Presley, Lisa Marie’s grandfather, passed away at 63 after experiencing a heart arrest.

Although cardiac arrest and heart failure are not the same, both conditions can be fatal. A cardiovascular arrest occurs when the heart stops beating, whereas heart failure indicates that the heart is not pumping as much blood as the body requires.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, having a family history of heart disease increases your risk of developing a heart condition in the future.

Heart disease comes in many forms, and it can run in families. The Mayo Clinic states that having a parent with coronary artery disease increases your risk of developing the condition yourself.

Dolly Parton, a superstar of country music, expressed hope earlier this week that Lisa Marie was now at peace with her deceased father.

“I thought, ‘Well, Elvis is there waiting for her,'” Parton, 76, said during a Nashville, Tennessee, event for her Duncan Hines cake mixes. “We just all love that family and just wish them the best, but that was a horrible, sad loss.”

She said to the source, “Hopefully they are up there together and happy, and hopefully Priscilla will find some peace through the love that we all have for her.”

Following the singer-passing, the songwriter’s country singer posted on Instagram a message for Lisa Marie Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley.

“Priscilla, I know how sad you must be. May God comfort you at this time,” she wrote last week. “Elvis, I know how happy you must be to finally have her home and to have her back with you. Lisa Marie, may you rest in peace. We all love all of you.”

In response to a woman who was not breathing, paramedics were dispatched to the 5900 block of Normandy Drive in Calabasas, California, on January 12, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The paramedics started performing CPR as soon as they arrived and then moved the patient to a nearby hospital for “urgent medical attention” after observing “signs of life” in the patient.

Priscilla, an actress, and entrepreneur is Lisa Marie’s mother. She is also survived by her three daughters, Riley Keough, Finley and Harper Keough, and Riley Keough, 33. Ben Keough, Lisa Marie’s son, died before her in July 2020. He took his own life at the age of 27.

According to Keough’s agent, she will be laid to rest next to her son Benjamin at Graceland. A public memorial service for her will also be held at Graceland.
