Miley Cyrus and Dolly ring in the New Year with a “Wrecking Ball” mashup
Miley Cyrus and her godmother Dolly Parton hosted the second annual Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party special in Miami, and the night was jam-packed with electrifying performances.
The combo was fantastic on everything from “Jolene” to Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n Roll,” but fans are clamoring for more after hearing Miley and Dolly’s medley of their respective big songs, “Wrecking Ball” and “I Will Always Love You.”
Before roaring out the words to her own song, Dolly changed the lyrics of the 2013 emotive ballad by the “Plastic Hearts” singer from “I will always want you” to “I will always adore you.”
Fans expressed their excitement at the mashup on Twitter, with one person noting that Dolly Parton performing Wrecking Ball with Miley Cyrus and then switching right to I Will Always Love You is how everyone should start the New Year.
Another admirer remarked that the Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton medley was one of the all-best time’s performances.
It just makes sense that Miley and Dolly had the same closeness in their daily lives because they were so in sync with one another on stage.
Before the NBC special, Miley granted an exclusive interview with news in which she discussed their sort of unspoken understanding over who will play her in a potential biopic.
On the news segment from December 15, she stated, “Me and Dolly have never really spoken, honestly, about me playing Dolly because I feel like I’m already doing it.” Miley made fun of her godmother’s figure “I’m unsure of what they intend to do to me. I’m sucking, tucking, and plucking as she instructed me to.”
Miley said she wasn’t concerned about their preparations for their New Year’s celebration because they have a “unspoken, ‘I’ve got your back'” bond.
“Anything that would ever happen, I know she could pick up,” she explained. “Anyone watching at home would never notice that something happened, that it wasn’t planned to.”
