One of the most eagerly awaited movies of 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, finally came out in November, and it lived up to the expectations. Some of the actors’ work in the movie was so outstanding that Angela Bassett, who played Queen Ramonda, received Marvel’s first acting Academy Award nomination. Chadwick Boseman’s passing forced the film’s director, Ryan Coogler, to make some adjustments. One of which meant that Wakanda would require a new defender and the monarch would not be recast. We all received a surprise at the movie’s conclusion during the mid-credits scene, which was a testament to Coogler’s amazing work.

Marvel revealed that Chadwick’s King T’Challa had a son with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) before he died in the movie. The young man was introduced to his aunt, Shuri, as Toussaint, also known as Prince T’Challa (Letitia Wright). In an interview with POC Culture, Divine Love Konadu-Sun, who played the youthful Prince T’Challa, was questioned about what it meant to be a part of Wakanda Forever. Konadu-Sun, who was eight years old, characterized it as “amazing” and “quite exciting.”

“It’s definitely very exciting. It was wonderful,” the young actor said. “It was a dream come true because I’ve been wanting to do it for so long, and also it was amazing because I finally got to see myself on the big screen, and I’ve wanted to do that since I saw Black Panther.”

The young prince’s appearance was only one of many ways Marvel attempted to honor the slain king both on and off-screen throughout the movie. Konadu-Sun also disclosed that as part of his MCU training, he watched Captain America: Civil War, Boseman’s entry into the series. The young man recalls his reaction to landing the job as, “I hugged my parents and I was just dancing a lot.”

As far as tributes go, Boseman is honored throughout the entirety of the movie in both significant and minor ways. With references to Wakanda losing its protector and jackals swarming, T’Challa’s burial, and other events, Marvel made us miss the renowned actor much more than we already do. However, Konadu-appearance Sun presents a potential for the franchise to resurrect him, although with a different actor. It remains to be seen if Konadu-Sun is that individual. Despite now being kept hidden from the public, his aunt is wearing a mantle that he might someday inherit, and someone else is wearing his father’s crown. Prince T’Challa’s time in the MCU may not be over.
