The impending adaptation of the iconic sports film White Men Can’t Jump, in which rapper Jack Harlow will make his feature film debut, has received a new trailer from Hulu and 20th Century Studios.

Kamal Allen and Harlow’s character Jeremy show up for a pickup basketball game in the 30-second clip (Sinqua Walls). Kamal inquires as to how much money Jeremy brought himself as it appears that Jeremy is asking for a loan to pay for the game. “$80…minus $60,” responds Jeremy. After then, the trailer switches to a montage of Harlow and Walls playing basketball while an off-screen voice can be heard saying, “What’s up with your boy?” The phrase “the Paul Thomas Anderson of psychological warfare” is also used by Jeremy. The brief teaser ends with Jeremy and Kamal disagreeing about who is the best living director—Anderson or Spike Lee—while discussing movies. In addition to Harlow and Walls, the movie also features Tatiana Maslany, Lance Reddick, and Laura Harrier.

Most of the film’s plot contents are kept a secret. White Men Can’t Jump, on the other hand, is a contemporary remake of the same-named 1992 movie. In that movie, Woody Harrelson played Billy Hoyle, a former collegiate basketball star turned streetball hustler who is able to easily win wagers since people assume he can’t play basketball because he is white. The movie starred Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.

Later, Harrelson partners up with another streetball player, Syd Deane, played by Wesley Snipes, and the two collaborate during a basketball game outside. Tyra Ferrell and Rosie Perez both appeared in the original movie. Although it is uncertain how closely the remake will resemble the 1992 original, additional story specifics will probably become known as the movie’s release date approaches.

Even though this will be Harlow’s first major motion picture, viewers will not be seeing his acting prowess for the first time in this film. Last Halloween, the 24-year-old hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live. His performance was praised as a valuable addition to the sketch comedy program. He even had the opportunity to appear in two sketches alongside the late Tom Hanks.

Calmatic, who is in charge of directing White Men Can’t Jump, previously spoke with Collider about his choice to use Harlow as the protagonist:

“It was a moment where we were really having a hard time figuring out who we were gonna go out to for this role, and before we even had a big list of names, someone just brought up the name Jack Harlow…and so, we brought him in to audition, and we put him through the ringer. We were there for a few hours, and he killed it, man.”

A remake of the classic movie House Party served as the feature debut of music video director Calmatic in January 2023. Harlow would join the White Men Can’t Jump adaptation in March 2022, according to a 2017 announcement from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. The movie’s script was written by Doug Hall and Barris.

Along with NBA player Blake Griffin, Ryan Kalil, and Noah Weinstein, who are producing through their banner Mortal Media with 20th Century, which is distributing the movie as a Hulu original, Barris is also a producer on the movie through his Khalabo Ink Society label.
