Jeff Loveness will soon write ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’

The newly published Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which started Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was written by Jeff Loveness. He will also be penning the upcoming Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, so he will continue to play a significant role in the series.

Especially when it comes to Kang the Conqueror, the new bad guy. Loveness spoke with Perri Nemiroff of Collider on all things Ant-Man and his upcoming role as the writer for the following Avengers movie. One of the subjects discussed was the director of the 2025 movie, Destin Daniel Cretton, who according to Loveness will give the Avengers team a fresh perspective.

Nemiroff questioned Loveness about his enthusiasm for working with Cretton. The author cited Cretton’s prior work as examples of the intimacy he is able to portray through directing:

“At the Laemmle cinema on Sunset, I went alone to see Short Term 12 I believe the theater’s name has since changed, but I do recall watching that small independent film while hardly in the theatre. But wow, there’s that scene in Short Term 12 with LaKeith Stanfield and Brie Larson where he finally lets his guard down. The acting is really outstanding. This is obviously fantastic writing and performance, but the directing is so personal, I recalled thinking. Combine that with Jonathan Majors’ gentle, quiet, and thoughtful performance in The Last Black Man in San Francisco.”

According to Loveness, Majors and Cretton can create a magnificent villain by working together in the following manner:

“Remove me from consideration, you understand? Toss me out the window, you clown! I don’t know if that would be popular online. But I believe that the two of them combined will create a legendary villain, so I just want to provide them the finest lunch I can. Nonetheless, I believe that Destin has a great handle on personality, quiet, and moments of genuine empathy and connection with each other.”

He also makes the point that while the Avengers in earlier movies have worked together, with Cretton, they could be able to forge a greater family bond among the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

That will either make or break a superhero movie. The fact that the X-Men are a family is one of the reasons I adore them. Coworkers of the Avengers. The family of the X-Men. Or, obviously, like the Fantastic Four, who are a family. Thus, I believe it will be extremely fascinating to watch an Avengers movie with a bit more of a tender family kind of human connection, even with their antagonists. Destin is the ideal candidate for the position, in my opinion.

Quantumania is a box office hit, but reviews are conflicting.

The third Ant-Man movie, and the MCU’s thirty-first overall, is titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The movie has become the most financially successful Ant-Man movie to date since its February 17 release, grossing $225 million worldwide in its first weekend. Ant-Man 3 has made the most money, but it has also gotten substantially worse reviews than the majority of other Marvel movies. Quantumania received a B- grade from Collider’s Ross Bonaime, who called it “a promising, but wobbly start for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” adding that it’s unfortunate that it comes at the expense of the underdog.
