Morgan Freeman will play the villain role against Luke Hemsworth in “Gunner”

The upcoming action thriller film Gunner will star Luke Hemsworth alongside Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman. In contrast to Hemsworth (Westworld), who plays the protagonist, the award-winning actor will play the evil overlord.

In the action thriller Gunner, Hemsworth plays Special Ops veteran Lee Gunner, who battles a drug cartel when his two boys are taken hostage while he is out fishing. Gunner’s sons discover a large drug cartel operation, which causes the son of the gang’s leader Kendrick Ryker to kidnap them (Freeman). Ryker manages his organization efficiently while behind up until he encounters Gunner, who causes havoc on the gang in an effort to save his boys. Hemsworth plays an ex-Special Ops soldier with extraordinary combat abilities in the action thriller.

Speaking of Freeman’s casting, Delphine Perrier, COO of Highland Film Group, called him an unmatched talent. “We’re pleased to work with him for a second time in such a distinct and fascinating capacity,” Perrier said of working with Morgan Freeman, who is such an exceptional talent.

Director of the film Gunner Dimitri Logothetis (Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxer: Retaliation) expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with Freeman and named Thaddeus Bradley from Now You See Me as his favourite portrayal by the actor.

“I feel so privileged to have Morgan Freeman in Gunner. One of my most favorite and unforgettable performances of his is when he played the villain ‘Thaddeus Bradley’ in Now You See Me. Freeman is deceivingly complex and perfect for Gunner.”

In Alabama, Gunner will begin filming this spring. The co-writers of the action thriller are Logothetis and Gray Scott Thompson (The Fast and the Furious), and the action thriller is produced by Joel Shapiro (Killerman, Dear Dictator). The remaining cast for the future film has not yet been revealed. Lioness, directed by Taylor Sheridan, the filmmaker of Yellowstone, will also feature Freeman.
