Olivia Newton honored by a fan in state memorial service Australia
A state memorial service will be held in Melbourne, Australia, the city where the late singer was born, giving Australian admirers the chance to pay their respects.
The tribute, which was planned in conjunction with the star’s family, will be held on February 26 at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne, and months after her passing in August.
There are a very small number of free tickets available for the service. Fans may sign up for the event starting on February 10.
Along with musical performances by Delta Goodrem, who previously worked with Newton-John and portrayed her in the 2018 Australian biopic miniseries Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You, the evening will include special tributes from family and friends.
Daniel Andrews, the premier of the State of Victoria, stated in a statement that “Dame Olivia Newton-John was an example to millions around the world – her work in cancer research and treatment saved lives and transformed lives and her music was the soundtrack to a generation.”
We know Victorians are keen to honor the life of a pioneer in medical research and a cultural icon with a memorial service reflecting her international recognition, the minister continued.
The memorial ceremony has been planned since Andrews tweeted that she wanted to do something special to honor her life, and her family supported her request.
Her husband John Easterling shared the news on her social media accounts on August 8 that the four-time Grammy winner and Xanadu actress had passed away at age 73 following a 30-year battle with breast cancer.
At the time, he stated, “Olivia has been a symbol of success and hope for over 30 years sharing her experience with breast cancer.” “The Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, which is focused on studying plant medicine and cancer, carries on her pioneering work in plant medicine and healing inspiration. The family requests that any memorial contributions be donated to the @onjfoundation rather than flowers in her honor.”
According to her agent, John Travolta, Marie Osmond, Leeza Gibbons, and Sir Cliff, all attended Newton-memorial John’s ceremony in September when friends and family mourned her. Other Australian friends traveled from Australia for the service as well.
“It was at a vineyard near her home in Southern California on the 21st,” a source told at the time. “The family wanted this to be very quiet and private.”
