Savannah Guthrie departs today after airing a COVID positive test
After her Tuesday shift as Today’s host, Savannah Guthrie tested positive for COVID. The anchor abruptly left the Tuesday night broadcast early. But Sheinelle Jones announced the results of her positive test live on television during the 8 a.m. segment of the show.
Jones said, “By the way, it’s been a fascinating morning for us. “Savannah underwent a COVID test because, as we previously mentioned, she departed early and wasn’t feeling well. That gave a favourable result.”
Jones continued, “She hurried home to rest up as soon as we learned the truth. We therefore send our love and best wishes for a quick recovery to Savannah.”
The 51-year-old Guthrie, who is immunized, has missed a Today broadcast before due to a positive COVID test. In January 2022, she went off-air for the first time.
One day after her Today counterpart Hoda Kotb made a notable absence, the host took a sick day. Kotb, 58, skipped Tuesday’s appointment. No explanation for why Kotb was off the air or whether it was also related to COVID has been made public.
