Thus it starts! I had the pleasure of visiting the Scream VI Stabby Dinner event and the Scream VI Experience in Santa Monica, California, during this Scream-filled weekend preceding the premiere of Scream VI. Both were a real pleasure and a terrific time for any ardent franchise fan, but the Scream VI Experience in particular had a few Easter eggs that may end up being quite important in the next, on March 10th, new film.

Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding), and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) leave for school and a new beginning elsewhere following the most recent massacre in Woodsboro in Scream VI. However, Ghostface is back as usual, and for the first time ever, the murderer or murderers are hunting their victims in a large city—New York City.

Ghostface from Scream VI is “something different,” as the trailer makes clear, but he also seems to have strong ties to the past given the shrine dedicated to previous murderers and victims. The Scream VI Experience included not just a reproduction of the shrine using actual objects from the movie, but it also included a bodega with other intriguing touches tucked away all around the place.

Gale’s New Book

There was a stack of well-known books by Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), including Hollywood Horror and Out of Darkness by Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), but there was also one novel we had never seen before, Requel: Fear Returns to Woodsboro. Given her comments in the film about writing additional books, it’s a bit of a surprise that Gale actually did publish a book about the events of Scream 2022 given that title.

Gale says, “If I hadn’t written that book about your mother, none of this would have happened,” as Sidney and Gale head to the old Macher residence to assist in thwarting the killers’ intended atrocity. Sidney says, “After tonight, no more books, no more movies, no more fucking Ghostface,” even though she insisted it wasn’t true.

After the bloodbath, Sam later inquires about Gale’s wellbeing. Ask me in a few days, Gale says, adding later, “But at least I know what I’m going to write about.” Gale answers Sam’s question by saying, “Not this. Such jerks can perish in silence. Perhaps anything regarding a fine man who formerly served as the local sheriff.

Is Requel: Horror Returns to Woodsboro really about that? Although the book’s title suggests it does discuss carnage, the tone and/or perspective may change to allow the narrative to examine those events without exalting the murderers and instead emphasise the bravery of a certain well-known franchise hero.

Ghostface Mask by Billy Loomis

There will be a new Ghostface mask in Scream VI. Unlike the conventional white design that seems brand-new out of the bag, this one has a very worn-in appearance that suggests it has seen a lot of use over time. Whose, though?

There are two hints in the trailer that point to Billy Loomis’ (Skeet Ulrich) mask being worn. Let’s start with the most important one, the shrine. Such a collection makes it obvious that the person who owned this worn-out mask in the past. The mannequins in the shrine all wear robes, but none are wearing masks. Hence, there is nowhere to look for confirmation.

Sam is seen clutching that exact mask in another image in the video, though. Given that her hands and the mask itself are covered in blood, it is most likely from the film’s conclusion, following the third act slaughter. Sam might have taken the mask from the crime scene after deciding she should be the one to safeguard her father’s mask.

The Scream VI Experience has now confirmed Billy as the subject of every hint in the trailers. There was one mannequin with a robe and the grey, damaged mask from the trailer in the shrine reenactment during the event. The label on that mannequin read “Billy Loomis.”
