“The Portable Door” reveal its streaming date on MGM+
The Portable Door, a future fantasy-adventure comedy movie, will be released only on MGM+, according to the company’s announcement. In April, MGM+ will start streaming the movie, which stars Sam Neill, Patrick Gibson, Christoph Waltz, and Sophie Wilde.
The seven-book fantasy series of the same name by Tom Holt served as the inspiration for The Portable Door. The movie will center on Paul Carpenter (Gibson) and Sophie Pettingel (Wilde), two interns who start working at the enigmatic J.W. Wells & Co. firm in London. The two start to see that their employers are anything from traditional while they are there.
In the course of the movie, “charismatic villains Humphrey Wells (Waltz), the company’s CEO, and middle manager Dennis Tanner (Neill), are disrupting the world of magic by bringing contemporary corporate strategy to ancient magical practices, and Paul and Sophie discover the true agenda of the enormous corporation.” The Portable Door will also have unspecified roles for Chris Pang, Rachel House, Jessica de Gouw, and Miranda Otto in addition to the four leads.
The Portable Door’s development and Waltz and Neill’s casting were originally reported in June 2021. The Jim Henson Company, Sky Production, and Story Bridge Films all contributed to the production. Together with Chris Lytton, Lisa Henson works as an executive producer for The Jim Henson Company, the brand that bears her father’s name. Along with Sky’s Julia Stuart and Laura Grange, Ying Ye and Ryan Hamilton from Arclight Films, Cailah Scobie and Shana Levine from Stan, and Brian Beckmann, Gary Hamilton, and Ying Ye from Sky are additional executive producers. From Story Bridge, Todd Fellman is co-producing with Blanca Lista of The Jim Henson Company.
“The Portable Door is a charming young-adult action-adventure fantasy with a British sensibility that is an excellent addition to our curated film library,” said Michael Wright, the head of MGM+. “With Sam Neill, Christoph Waltz, Patrick Gibson, and its wonderful cast of excellent actors, we’re thrilled to offer this delightful film to our audience of movie lovers.”
Henson agreed, saying, “There is no greater home for this wonderful and humorous journey than on the esteemed new MGM+. The Portable Door gave us the chance to create the kind of unforgettable, fascinating world-building that The Jim Henson Company does best. It had deeply humorous performances from our wonderful ensemble and a rich, high-fantasy scenario. It’s expected that The Portable Door will become the next Henson fan favourite.
MGM+, which changed its name from EPIX after parent company MGM was acquired by Amazon, is streaming The Portable Door in addition to a number of other well-known movies from its studio. This includes the most recent MGM productions House of Gucci and No Time to Die. The Portable Door has not yet received a formal April release date, yet.
