Vin Diesel is back to work with director David Twohy
Vin Diesel, star of the Fast & Furious movies, recently unveiled some concept art for the eagerly anticipated Riddick 4: Furya, revealing a mysterious new character. The character of Riddick was initially introduced in David Twohy’s sci-fi action thriller Pitch Black in 2000, which is widely regarded as Diesel’s first significant acting breakthrough as an action star (The Arrival). Diesel and Twohy collaborated once more for The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004, the sequel to the cult hit first movie.
Nine years later, in 2013, the third live-action installment of the series, Riddick, brought the lead character back into the spotlight. Despite the success of the Fast & Furious trilogy diverting the immensely well-known actor’s attention from Riddick’s world, which is set 500 years in the future, the popularity of Riddick led Diesel and Universal to announce that they were exploring a fourth film in the franchise.
In 2016, Diesel announced that production on the fourth film had begun and that Twohy would also be coming back to write and direct. Things were rather quiet until he announced on social media in 2019 that the script had been finished. Nine years after the conclusion of the most recent Riddick movie, Diesel finally provided some updates when he recently posted another piece of concept art from Riddick 4: Furya on Instagram. Before revealing the most recent piece of concept art for Riddick 4: Furya on Instagram a few days later, the initial piece of concept art showed his character floating through the air with a female companion during an action scene.
Though the identity of the character seen in the concept art is unknown, his elaborate facial piercings and ornaments, together with his sinister look, might indicate that he will be one of the movie’s villains. Diesel further builds anticipation by adding “Furya awaits…” to the caption of the most recent piece of concept art, despite the fact that its context and subject are still unknown.
The fourth movie’s plot, according to the Furya, is expected to take place on Riddick’s home planet, which was left desolate after a Necromonger attack killed most of the Furyans who lived there. Diesel’s character made an attempt to get back home in the third movie but was unsuccessful in his mission; however, the fourth movie gives Riddick the chance to carry on with his search and explore both his past and the history of his people. Diesel just shared two examples of concept art, and it now seems that the fourth movie will begin filming sooner than before.
