The trailer for Momentum Pictures’ touching and humorous family dramedy Wildflower, which was written and directed by Jana Savage, has been released. In the movie, Kiernan Shipka plays Bea, the neurodivergent parents’ daughter (Samantha Hyde and Dash Mihok), who spends her childhood looking out for and protecting them just as much as they do for her. As she approaches maturity, she finds it difficult to decide whether to stay with her parents or look for a life and a partner of her own. The trailer shows Bea’s longing to leave her parents’ home and gives a glimpse of her life growing up.

It was immediately apparent that Bea’s life was anything from ordinary. Her mother and father were married quickly, and she was born quickly, which was the beginning of everything. Even though they have doubts about their capacity to rear a kid, Bea’s parents try to make the most of life outside the houses of their own parents despite their neurodivergence.

As the young Bea (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) experiences life outside of her house and begins to realize her life isn’t normal—including taking driving lessons at the age of ten—they immediately run into problems. She still feels the need to stay and care for her parents in spite of her increasing desire for independence when she meets a boy and considers applying to college. She begins to learn how to live for herself through individuals in her immediate circle, including her parents, and she discovers they are not as helpless as she had previously believed.

Together with Shipka, Armstrong, Hyde, and Mihok, Wildflower also stars Jean Smart, Jacki Weaver, Charlie Plummer, Alexandra Daddario, Kannon Omachi, Brad Garrett, and Erika Alexander in a major supporting role. At the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022, the movie received favourable reviews and received a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Who Appear in Emotional Wildflower by Smukler?

Smukler modelled Wildflower on his own family, using ideas from his niece’s family as well. After the movie’s premiere, Collider’s own Perri Nemiroff got down with the creative team to talk about the history of the movie and their individual experiences creating these characters. Smukler gave Nemiroff specifics about how the narrative was created.

“It’s based on a genuine incident and was greatly influenced by my niece’s circumstances; in fact, it was a short I had written for my niece. My sister-in-law was born with a mental impairment, so the work was intended to assist [my niece] get into college, which it did. However, we later decided that because this family has so much joy, laughing, happiness, and hope, I should write it as a story and draw inspiration from them.”
