Creed 3: Michael B. Jordan teases immersive experience in new Dolby promo
Creed 3 is the first sports movie to be shot in IMAX...
The weekend box office will be led by Michael B. Jordan’s Creed III, which is set to dethrone Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was last week’s top movie.
The incredibly well-reviewed third installment brought in $5.4 million from previews on Wednesday and Thursday, with Thursday accounting for 74% of the total. This puts the movie in a position to handily outperform both of its predecessors and take first place in its opening weekend.
The movie was anticipated to make at least $36 million in its opening weekend, with a $40 million high end. It would put Creed III ahead of the first Creed’s $29.6 million three-day debut in 2015 and Creed II’s $35.5 million opening weekend in 2018.
Creed III is still on course to reach that mark. In contrast to the first Creed, which grossed $1.4 million in Tuesday previews before making its Wednesday debut just before Thanksgiving, Creed II opened with $3.7 million on a Tuesday, also just before Thanksgiving. Creed earned $42 million at the end of its five-day opening weekend, while the sequel earned $56 million over the same period.
The Rocky spinoffs Creed and Creed II, which also starred Sylvester Stallone as the legendary fighter, as well as the third movie, opened to rapturous reviews from critics and viewers.
Jordan’s Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, competes against his boyhood friend Damien, played by the incredibly popular Jonathan Majors, in Creed III. In addition, this sets up a competitive box office match between two of his films this weekend that are all threequels.
