Harry Styles wins big at BRIT Awards

A week after his victory at the Grammys, Harry Styles was the major winner at the BRIT Awards, Britain’s pop music honors, on Saturday, winning all four categories in which he was nominated.

Styles won the coveted album of the year award for “Harry’s House,” the song of the year award for his synth pop hit “As It Was,” as well as the awards for best pop/R&B act and artist of the year, one of the two gender-neutral categories that were added last year after the BRIT Awards organizers did away with the distinction between male and female.

All of the candidates for that award were men, which infuriated a lot of people in the field and on social media.

Styles dedicated the artist of the year award to a number of female singers in his acceptance speech, saying, “I’m really, really grateful for this and I’m very aware of my privilege up here tonight.”

Styles, a member of the boy band One Direction who gained notoriety on talent competition “The X Factor,” won two Grammy Awards last week, including album of the year.
