Jenna Ortega, a 20-year-old actress, had strong opinions on the writing for Netflix’s Wednesday and had no qualms about altering the script on the spot while filming.

She admitted as much to Dax Shepard on this week’s Armchair Expert podcast: “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s actions, as well as those I had to play, “do not make any sense at all for her character,” claims Ortega. “It made no sense for her to be in a love triangle.”

Mixed reactions followed the comments, however, some fans praised Ortega’s viewpoint. “I truly like Jenna Ortega’s apparent candor on her experience working on Wednesday. She also provided an explanation for her frequent modifications. You can’t lead a story and have no emotional journey, Ortega remarked, adding, “I grew very, very protective of her.”

Ortega deactivated her Twitter account shortly after the podcast segment aired. The second season of Wednesday has been picked up. Season 1 is available to stream now on Netflix.
