With seven Oscars, the stars of Everything Everywhere At Once created history at the 95th Academy Awards. A new endeavor will be undertaken by the legendary Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan. With Disney+ this time.
Yeoh and Quan will rejoin in the Disney+ series American Born Chinese after each winning an Oscar.
The series, which is based on Gene Luen Yang’s 2006 graphic novel of the same name, follows Jin Wang (Ben Wang), a Chinese immigrant who struggles to fit in as a child in a neighborhood that is predominately white.
At school, Wang befriends a Taiwanese student right before getting involved in a battle with Chinese mythological figures.
“Dark forces will be calling,” Yeoh, says in the teaser.
“The fate of your world hangs in the balance.”
Yeoh performs the role of Wang’s aunt, who is occupied with “maintaining her secret identity as the all-powerful Buddhist bodhisattva of Compassion,” according to the media.
The role of Freddie Wong, “the star of a popular 1990s sitcom,” is anticipated to go to Ke Huy Quan.
Stephanie Hsu, who starred in Everything Everywhere All at Once, will also be appearing with Yeoh and Quan in a cameo role as Shiji Niangniang, the Goddess of Stones, who works in a jewelry store with her charmed dog.
Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Sydney Taylor, and Poppy Liu are also featured in the cast. The Jade Emperor will be portrayed by James Hong, who previously played Gong Gong in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.
On May 24, 2023, American Born Chinese will make its Disney+ debut.
