Tom Cruise ‘over the moon’ after Academy Award nomination

The 95th Academy Awards are set for this Sunday, but organizers are bracing for the unexpected after Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock left Hollywood’s biggest awards to show in a state of disarray the previous year.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has established a crisis squad for the first time to handle any catastrophes.
“It is our hope that we will be prepared for anything,” Academy Chief Executive Bill Kramer told Time magazine in a recent interview. “Because of last year, we’ve opened our minds to the many things that can happen at the Oscars.”
After confronting Rock on stage over a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, Rock was given the best actor award, and the film academy received harsh criticism for allowing Smith to accept the award while still in the crowd.
The company has not provided information on the crisis team’s composition or its potential response to anything out of the usual. Smith is not going to be there. For ten years, he was not permitted to attend the occasion.
Janet Yang, the president of the Academy, said during a luncheon for nominees in February that the institution had learned how to respond “swiftly, compassionately and decisively” in times of crisis, and “you should and can expect no less from us going forward.”
The Dolby Theatre, where the ceremony is held, has strict security. The red carpet and theatre are surrounded by many blocks that are closed off by law enforcement.
The show’s producers, Glenn Weiss, and Ricky Kirshner expressed their desire to continue highlighting the year’s nominated films and the people who helped make them come to life.
“I don’t think anybody is particularly looking to harp too much on what’s happened in the past,” Weiss said.
The ABC network, owned by Walt Disney Co., will air the program.
Many of the biggest box office successes of 2022 are included in the field of best picture contenders, a change from recent years when the Academy nominated a lot of obscure movies. These are “Elvis,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and “Everything Everywhere Everything at Once.”
“We’re there to entertain, and to highlight the great movies this year, many of which people have seen, which is great for us,” Kirshner said.
The Oscars have experienced a decline in viewers recently, much like previous award events, especially among younger people who are devoted to social media. Weiss revealed that the crew intended to sprinkle the show with moments that they hoped would go viral on TikTok and Twitter.
Pop icon Rihanna will perform “Lift Me Up,” which she nominated for a Grammy. The song “This is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere” will be performed by Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne, and the band Son Lux.
Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, the vocalists of “Natuu Natuu,” will also perform a song from the Indian action movie “RRR.”
The ceremony will once again be hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who helped resolve the confusion in 2017 when the wrong best-picture winner was presented.
Kimmel was referred to as “unflappable and unslappable” in a programme advertisement.
