“Star Wars” Film by Kevin Feige is postponed indefinitely
There has been a disturbance in the Force, which is bad news for fans eagerly anticipating the movies Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige are producing. Since 2015, the Star Wars series has undergone a bumpy reboot that has been hampered by creative problems, director firings, and generally poor decision-making.
With Variety reporting that both Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron and Marvel Studios President Feige’s untitled project have been put on hold indefinitely, the bad luck has only increased. The Mandalorian, the critically acclaimed and adored television series from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, is the exception; while the Star Wars franchise continues to do moderately well through Disney+, the feature films produced under the Disney/Lucasfilm banner have experienced a law of diminishing returns.
During the Lucasfilm section of Disney’s Investor Day presentation in December 2020, Jenkins was originally introduced as the project’s director. Jenkins posted an interesting and touching account on Twitter about the loss of her fighter pilot father and her desire to create the greatest fighter pilot movie ever. When it was completely dropped off the Disney release plan in September 2022, rumours had been growing that the film was in trouble due to creative disagreements.
Jenkins last made a public statement about Rogue Squadron in December, when she said that the movie was still in development at the time and that she was attached to helm the picture. It represents the latest in a difficult stretch, professionally, for Jenkins after she severed relations with DC and Warner Bros. on Wonder Woman 3 following the accession of James Gunn and Peter Safran to the CEO post
With Michael Waldron’s success at penning Loki for Disney+ and Doctor Strange in the Universe of Magic for filmmaker Sam Raimi at Marvel Studios, news of Feige’s project had been scarce. Michael Waldron had been tapped to pen the script for a number of years. Waldron had told Variety that he was “enjoying having the freedom on that to develop something that’s not strictly a sequel or anything,” when he talked with the magazine in 2026.
To write the script for Avengers: Secret Wars (2026), which is intended to be the conclusion of the current Multiverse Saga in the MCU, Feige went back to Waldron five months later. Feige’s decision to leave Lucasfilm may have been influenced by the fact that the current Marvel film lineup has not received positive reviews. Unlike Jenkins, however, Feige will have plenty to keep him busy with the additional 19 Marvel projects that have been announced and are currently in various stages of development.
