The monster theme has begun once more in 2023 releases, but this time, nature is the bad guy. Following the mediocre slasher movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, whose antagonists can be considered animals in some ways, and the Elizabeth Banks-directed black comedy movie Cocaine Bear, another man-eating creature will be making its way to theatres with the upcoming release of The Black Demon, which promises to offer a new angle on a well-worn genre.

A poster that was published shortly after the current trailer’s release depicts danger surfacing as a huge shark based on a tale from Mexico starts to terrorize the area by biting everyone who tries to approach it.

The new poster for the upcoming killer shark movie features the tagline “nature bites back,” emphasizing the morbidly large black megalodon preying on its victim. The film is being directed by Adrian Grünber, whose previous work in gore movies includes the 2019 Sylvester Stallone movie Rambo: Last Blood. The Sturges family can also be seen on the billboard observing from a distance as their ostensibly lovely family vacation turns into a nightmare. In addition to the recently released poster, some new pictures were also made public. While the collection of pictures didn’t reveal much about what audiences can expect in the upcoming movie, it did show how the family and the residents of the particular town deal with the inescapable threat that could approach at any time of day.

The Black Devil, based on a myth from Mexico, centers on Paul Sturges (Josh Lucas), who is purportedly taking his family on a beautiful holiday to Bahia Negra. But, a massive beast has awakened and is ready to slaughter anybody to defend its domain. Paul and his family must find a way out quickly before nature “bite[s] back” after entering the platform to further explore the problem and become imprisoned with several other males.

The Shallows, 47 Meters Down, The Meg, Soul Surfer, and—of course—the 1975 classic Jaws, which has become a franchise due to the positively received critical reception of the first, are just a few films that have dealt with killer sharks; The Black Demon, however, begs to differ with its intriguing premise of focusing on a terrifying black shark legend that has been spreading terror among people who claimed to have seen one.

Even if the story is still a myth at this moment, it’s safe to say that the idea of a huge shark serving as the antagonist still bites and will undoubtedly still deliver a heart-pounding thrill when the movie debuts on April 28.
