Reality television star Matt Brown, best known for appearing in the Discovery series Alaskan Bush People, has died at the age of 42 in Washington, with authorities confirming that an investigation is currently underway into the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to initial reports, Brown was found dead on Saturday, May 30. Early indications suggest the possibility of suicide, however, official confirmation from the coroner’s office is still awaited as the case remains under investigation.

He was reportedly discovered by his brother, Solomon Isaiah “Bear” Brown, who later addressed the incident in an emotional video message, expressing shock over the sudden tragedy.

Bear Brown said he never expected his brother to take his own life, noting that Matt had been struggling for a prolonged period with personal challenges. He added that while substance-related issues had previously been a concern, he did not anticipate such an outcome.

“I would have never suspected he would have hurt himself,” he said, adding that Matt had faced long-term struggles and concerns were previously more related to substance use.

He further stated that early observations suggest the injury may be self-inflicted, although he emphasized that the final determination would be made following the coroner’s official findings.

“It does look as though the injury is self-inflicted,” he said, while urging that official conclusions were still pending.

Matt Brown had publicly documented struggles with substance abuse in the past. His death has left fans and followers of the reality series in shock, as tributes continue to emerge across social media.

He is survived by his mother, Ami Brown, and his siblings Joshua, Solomon, Gabriel, Noah, Bird, and Rain Brown.
