Pakistan is also suffering the outbreak of global pandemic #COVID19, a disease in which the patient needs a ventilator (life-saving Machine support).

We try to figure out how many ventilators are available for a population of 210 million people in Pakistan.

These figures are not complete as they are compiled in emergencies and may vary from actual number, but the situation is not good.

After knowing the primary number of ventilators available in Pakistan will make you realize how much self-isolation in Pakistan like county is required.

Statistics shared by a health sector expert with The News reflects that public and private sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have around 150 ventilators.

In Balochistan, all government hospitals put together have only 49 working ventilators.

According to the official record, Punjab’s public sector hospitals have nearly 1,300 ventilators, most of which were procured by the Shahbaz Sharif government in 2016-2018 when it had launched a project for the revamping of tehsil and district hospitals.

In Lahore, the government hospitals have around 250 ventilators. However, the Punjab Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), which is a state-of-the-art facility and the brainchild of Shahbaz Sharif, alone has 100 brand new ventilators.

An official said the Punjab health department had done a stocktaking of ventilators in the private sector in Lahore and came to know that it has approximately 475 ventilators. However, the private hospitals of Lahore have 51 such machines. The previous government had provided 130 brand new ventilators to 25 district headquarter hospitals in 2017.

We didn’t find actual figures from Sindh but it is considered that Jinnah Hospital Karachi, NICVD, SIUT, Civil hospital Karachi, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Karachi, Indus hospital and private hospitals have more than 500 ventilators.
