ISLAMABAD: The first nationwide anti-polio campaign of the year kicked off today across the country, said the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health.

According to details, the anti-polio campaign started across the country today to continue till January 20.

The drive will immunize 44.2 million children in Pakistan.

Minister of Health Abdul Qadir Patel said that more than 360,000 frontline workers are participating in this polio campaign, in which additional doses of vitamin A are also being given.

He said that the government is determined to eliminate polio and concerted measures are being taken to get rid of it, adding that parents must give their children immunizations because it is our religious and moral duty to protect children from permanent disability.

Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday inaugurated a three-day nationwide anti-polio drive by administering polio drops to the children.

PM Shehbaz said that floods in the summer season had disrupted the national anti-polio drive, but despite all those difficulties, the polio workers carried out the onus with their hard work and commitment.
