Over 2,000 surgical masks have been stolen from a hospital in the Southern French city of Marseille, local news reported on Tuesday.

Note that there are 204 confirmed cases of coronavirus in France. Four people have also lost their lives.

Marseille hospital authority told the international news agency that the masks were stolen from a part of Conception hospital. Only staff and patients who have undergone surgeries are allowed to go there.

Authority said, “The AP-HM immediately launched an internal investigation to find the culprits,”

Hospital authority further said that there are enough masks to be used for operations but more masks have been ordered to keep in stock.

The incident happened after President Emmanuel Macron announced to use face masks stocks and production to deal with coronavirus outbreak.

Emmanuel Macron had announced that the masks would be kept for coronavirus patients and health staff.

Meanwhile, there is a fear of global shortages of few drugs after India restricted export due to coronavirus.

Exports of 26 ingredients and medicines have been restricted by the world’s biggest supplier of common medicines.

The news came out after drug ingredient makers in China cut their supply.

China provides nearly 70% of active ingredients to drug makers in India, according to an international news agency.

Industry experts say that a shortage of resources can be faced.

An analyst Shaun Rein from the China Market Research Group said, “Even drugs that aren’t produced in China get their base ingredients from China. Globally there could be a shortage if China and India both get hit,”
