Police in Lacey, Washington, have shot dead a man suspected of shooting a right-wing activist during protests in Oregon.
Police investigated Michael Reinoehl for the killing of a supporter of Donald Trump.
Reinoehl explained that he had acted in self-defense when he shot Aaron Danielson, a member of the Patriot Prayer group.
Police had issued a warrant for Reinoehl’s arrest was issued and he was located by agents on Thursday.
An official reported to the international news agency that the suspect had pulled a gun during the encounter with officers and police then shot him dead.
An official reported to the New York Times that a murder suspect in the area, who was not confirmed as Reinoehl, went out of his apartment and got into a vehicle.
Lieutenant Ray Brady said, “As they attempted to apprehend him, there was gunfire”.
On the other hand, Reinoehl had told a news source that he assumed and Danielson were going to stab him and his friend.
“I had no choice. I mean, I, I had a choice. I could have sat there and watched them kill a friend of mine of colour. But I wasn’t going to do that,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday, President Donald Trump said about the killing of Danielson, “Why aren’t the Portland police arresting the cold blooded killer of Aaron “Jay” Danielson. Do your job, and do it fast.”
It should be remembered that Reinoehl was accused of shooting Danielson during protest clashes when Trump’s supporters clashed with Black Lives Matter protesters.
