First-ever South Korean transgender soldier has reportedly been found dead at her home.
According to media reports, the 23-year-old soldier was found dead at her home in the city of Cheongju, south of Seoul.
However, no immediate cause of death has been reported yet.
In January last year, late Byun Hui-su has launched a landmark legal challenge against the military over her dismissal. But, her petition for reinstatement was rejected in July.
South Korea remains conservative on matters of sexual identity.
The transgender soldier had been receiving treatment for her mental health. In this regard, her counsellor called emergency services as she could not connect to her since February 28.
Furthermore, South Korea is far less tolerant of the LGBTQ community than its East Asian neighbours.
