A PREGNANT WOMAN and her unborn child were killed when a Russian airstrike struck a maternity hospital in Ukraine.

A harrowing image shows the woman being stretchered out of the hospital, and she later screamed “kill me, kill me” when she discovered her baby had died – before dying herself.

The Russian airstrike on the besieged city of Mariupol destroyed the maternity hospital, killing three people, including a young girl.

They are among the 1663 civilians killed since Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to invade Ukraine, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack “genocide” and said women who were about to give birth were injured, while children were buried under the rubble.

A bleeding woman with a swollen stomach was seen being carried on a stretcher past burned and mangled cars.

She was rushed to another hospital, even closer to the front lines, where doctors worked tirelessly to keep her alive.

When she realised she was going to lose her baby, she yelled to medics, “Kill me now!”

Timur Marin, the woman’s surgeon, discovered her pelvis crushed and her hip detached.

The baby was delivered via caesarean section, but it showed “no signs of life,” according to the surgeon.

The medics then fought for the mother’s life.

“More than 30 minutes of mother resuscitation yielded no results.” “Both died,” Marin explained.

In the midst of the chaos that followed the airstrike, medics didn’t have time to ask the woman’s name before her husband and father arrived to take her body.

According to the doctors, at least someone came to get her so she didn’t end up in the mass graves being dug for many of Mariupol’s growing number of dead.

According to Ukrainian authorities, 90 children have been killed since the Russian invasion began.

Wednesday’s airstrike was carried out during an agreed ceasefire period that was meant to allow the evacuation of civilians from the besieged southern city, said regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko.

Previous attempts to allow civilians to safely evacuate failed, resulting in harrowing images of people fleeing for safety.

The explosion at the hospital was so powerful that it shook the ground more than a mile away.

Pictures show a massive crater left by the shelling, as explosions blew out windows and destroyed much of the building’s front.

The charred remains of the hospital were shown on video, with wounded staff and patients being rushed out of the building into a devastating scene of burning cars and smouldering rubble.

The video showed holes where windows should have been in what appeared to be a severely damaged three-story hospital building.

A pregnant woman who was being led out of the wrecked unit was photographed wrapped in a duvet to keep warm in the freezing temperatures.

In a cruel twist, Russia shamelessly accused the pregnant woman of assisting in the fabrication of a barbaric hospital bombing.
