A SQUAD of amateur drone users claims to have destroyed Russia’s 40-mile convoy in a series of devastating ambushes.

The unlikely heroes destroyed large sections of Russia’s iconic “death convoy” of tanks and armoured vehicles, which was stranded outside Kyiv.

Volunteer professionals from the specialist air reconnaissance unit Aerorozvidka attacked Russian forces with drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras or capable of delivering tiny explosives, as well as sniper guns.

Lt Col Yaroslav Honchar, the group’s leader, stated an ambush near the village of Ivankiv helped to halt the enormous Russian offensive during the early days of the Ukraine war.

To prevent the Russians from advancing, the special IT team approached the column at night on quad bikes and destroyed its supply store.

“This one tiny unit in the night destroyed two or three cars at the head of this convoy, and then it became trapped,” Honchar told the Guardian.

“They stayed for two more nights and [destroyed] a large number of automobiles.”

“The first echelon of the Russian troops was stranded without heat, oil, munitions, or gas.” And that was all made possible by the efforts of 30 people,” he continued.

The special squad also claimed that by blasting 200 paratroopers, it managed to thwart a Russian airborne attack on Hostomel airport.

Honchar likened the group’s battle to that of a “hive of bees.”
