US President Joe Biden has accepted Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s invitation to visit Israel and plans to do so in the coming months, Bennett’s office said in a statement Sunday.
The two leaders spoke on Sunday, and Bennett updated Biden on attempts “to put an end to the bloodshed and incitement in Jerusalem,” according to the statement, referring to Israeli-Palestinian conflicts at the Al-Aqsa mosque site in the holy city.
At least 57 Palestinians were hurt Friday in skirmishes with Israeli police within the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, sparking fears of a repetition of last year’s battle between Israel and the Gaza-based Hamas Islamists.
Biden welcomed Bennett’s offer to visit Israel “and informed him that he plans to travel… in the coming months,” according to the statement.
