Villagers in Tanzania have been preyed upon while collecting water from a river teeming with man-eating crocodiles, with at least six falling victim to the predators since the beginning of the year.

Villagers have been asked to refrain from gathering water from the river’s bank following the deaths of six people to hungry crocodiles.

Between January and March, the man-eating crocs committed lethal assaults on humans as part of a series of violent attacks.

It is believed they were gathering water when the reptiles sprang themselves from the river, pulling them beneath the surface before devouring them.

Tanzania’s government is now intervening to make the region safer. Salum Bong’o, chairman of Kimaramisale village in Dutumi ward, said that one of the dead was his father.

“The six victims were attacked and devoured by the crocodiles between January and March 2022,” he told a press conference.

Villagers have petitioned the country’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to kill the monsters in reaction to the deadly assaults.

Rather than that, the government is initiating a project in the region that would eliminate the need for locals to gather water from the Ruvu River.

Several individuals were reportedly attacked by crocodiles last year while canoeing across the river to access the animals on the opposite side.

Attempts by the authorities to cull some of the deadly critters, which have around 60 fangs in their jaws, have failed in the past.

According to a local politician, licenses are frequently issued when the river is flooded, making it hard to view several crocs.

Another option for increasing safety is to construct a bridge across the river.

Earlier this month, a guy in Kariba, Zimbabwe, survived an assault by four crocodiles while fishing for his meal.

Alexander Chimedza went out in search of worms to use as bait in leafy ponds when he was apprehended.

The four scaly predators concealed themselves in dense grass as they approached the guy.

He was initially caught on the hand by one crocodile, who flung the fisherman into the water, twisting him in a disorienting ‘death spiral’.
