Colonel Ivan Grishin, the commander of Russia’s 49th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade, is the latest high-ranking official to be murdered in a huge attack on Moscow, according to reports. According to many stories circulating on social media, he was slain on Saturday near the Russian border town of Smolensk. The assassination of Grishin appeared to be confirmed by a post on VK, a Russian online social media and social networking site located in St Petersburg.

“The commander of the 49th anti-aircraft missile brigade stationed in Smolensk was killed,” the statement added.

“According to preliminary evidence, this occurred on April 16, 2022.

“On the territory of Ukraine, Colonel Grishin Ivan Ivanovich, commander of the 49th anti-aircraft missile brigade, a tactical air defence unit of the Russian Federation’s Ground Forces stationed in Smolensk, died while executing military duties!”

“Knew him personally – a true colonel, a decent family guy who was honest, responsive, and extremely powerful in spirit.”

Major General Vladimir Frolov, deputy commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army, was the eighth Russian general to die in combat.

On Saturday, he was put to rest in St Petersburg with full military honours.

Alexander Beglov, the city’s governor and a close Putin friend, claimed he gave his life “so that children, women, and the elderly in Donbas would not hear bombs bursting again.”

He stated he came from a military family and “died the death of the courageous in combat against Ukrainian nationalists” in a gushing eulogy at the general’s burial.

Frolov was described as a “genuine patriot, a bold and courageous guy” who “honestly and to the end performed his military and human duties.”

The number of high-ranking officers killed in action during the Ukraine war debunks Putin’s assertions that his “special military operation” is progressing as planned.

Lieutenant-General Andrei Mordvichev, commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army, was killed in combat in the southern city of Kherson last month, dealing another blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This came after the deaths of 29th Combined Arms Army Major General Andrei Kolesnikov and Vitaly Gerasimov.

Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky was reportedly killed by a sniper during the struggle for Hostomel Airfield, roughly 30 miles outside of Kyiv, in early March.

General Magomed Tushaev was killed near Hostomel after his Chechen special forces convoy, which included 56 tanks, was ambushed by Ukrainian forces.

Major-General Oleg Mityaev and Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev perished in fighting in the beleaguered city of Mariupol.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine about two months ago, Russia has already lost eight generals – a fight that has claimed the lives of 20,000 men.
