JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo said Friday that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have been invited to the Group of 20 (G20) conference in November.
In a virtual press conference, Widodo stated, “Indonesia is ready to contribute to the peace effort.”
“Indonesia wants to unite the G20. Do not let there be a split. Peace and stability are the keys to the world economic development.“
He said that the G20 plays a catalytic role in the global economy’s revival, and that he had phone discussions with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine this week.
In a phone discussion on Thursday, Widodo and Putin addressed problems of Russian-Indonesian collaboration as well as other elements of G20 events.
In a call with Zelensky on Wednesday, Widodo declined the Ukrainian president’s request for guns, adding that Indonesia is ready to provide humanitarian help.
