Emily Telesca was working out at her local gym’s free weights department when she overheard two men laughing about “striking her with a dumbbell.”
She reminded the males that “if I’m in your way at all, just let me know and I’ll absolutely move!”
“Can I ask why you do that?” one of the males, who is not visible on the camera, asked Emily.
The 28-year-old later stated that she was documenting her workout “for Instagram and TikTok.”
In her TikTok post, she described what transpired next as a “awkward quiet.”
“I feel pretty uneasy at this point,” she said in the descriptions of her videos.
“After his buddy next to me departed, another man begins chatting to me and tells me how he said, ‘look at this egotistical f***ing chick, I’m going to go and hit her with a dumbbell.'”
But Emily didn’t stay silent and fired back, telling them: “Oh my God, damn. That’s kind of mean.”
She then returned to the bench and resumed her sets.
Her video stirred discussion, with some advising Emily not to interact with the males.
Instead, they recommended her to report them to the management.
One person wrote: “Don’t laugh at his gloomy humour. Inform the owners. It’s not acceptable to insult you like that, boo.”
A second penned: “Joking or not, he insinuated violence. I’m sorry girl, you’re doing great.”
“I’m furious he said that to you! He’s clearly battling with insecurities and transferring them onto you. Don’t let this discourage you, “a third was added
This is “possibly the most awkward discussion I’ve ever had,” Emily said.
