World Art Day promotes the creation, dissemination, and enjoyment of art. Art allows people to express themselves.
In addition, the day is observed to promote art in everyday life.
Celebrated on April 15, World Art Day is a UNESCO dedicated day.
World Art Day was first declared in 2019 at UNESCO’s General Conference 40th. It’s also the birthday of Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci.
We all know that art is important in teaching. The day also aims to strengthen the link between art and society. It also honours artists’ contributions to our societies.
On World Art Day, schools and colleges hold competitions. People organise seminars, debates, and workshops to celebrate the day.
“We celebrate the power of art to provide comfort in times of crisis and difficulty,” the UN tweeted on World Art Day.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" — the 'Golden Rule' mosaic at UNHQ is based on the painting by US artist Norman Rockwell.

“This World Art Day is a timely reminder that art can unite and connect us even in the most difficult of circumstances. Indeed, the power of art to bring people together, to inspire, heal and share, has become increasingly clear during recent conflicts and crises, including COVID-19,” said Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO.
