Police in Alabama, US are looking for an escaped inmate who is wanted for murder, as well as a guard who may have assisted him.

Casey White, an inmate, and Vicki White, a prison officer, were last seen at the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama on Friday morning.

Ms. White stated that she was taking him to a mental examination, but officials later discovered that no such appointment had been made.

Ms. White is now suspected of assisting in the escape, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said Ms. White had sold her residence approximately a month ago and had “talked about heading to the beach” at a news conference on Friday.

Her last day at work was intended to be Friday, the day the two went missing.

Despite having the same surname, the two are not related. Casey White should be considered “armed and extremely dangerous,” according to authorities, in part because he may now have access to the officer’s weapon.

Mr. Singleton said Ms. White and the prisoner departed the jail center at 9:30 a.m. CDT (15:30 BST).

She had informed her coworkers that she would be dropping him up at the courthouse for a mental health evaluation.

Sheriff Singleton noted that Ms. White stated that she would seek medical assistance since she was not feeling well. Authorities now assume that this appointment was a ruse and that it was part of the escape scheme.

Someone discovered her automobile in a shopping mall parking lot shortly after 11:00 a.m.

Officials discovered the prisoner had not been returned to custody at about 15:30, and no one could reach the officer.

Sheriff Singleton said on Monday that officials suspect the escape was “orchestrated” and that Ms. White took part, though the details are still unknown.

“We’re not sure whether she did it willingly or under duress,” he said.

Ms. White is wanted for first-degree assisting escape allowing.

For information leading to Casey White’s recapture and the location of Vicki White, the US Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $10,000 (£7,950).

Mr. Singleton described Casey White, who stands 6ft 9in tall, as “very dangerous” and cautioned cops not to “take any chances” with him.

He went on to say, “He has nothing to lose.” “I’ll say it again as clearly as I can: we’re concerned about everyone.”
