After discovering a loaded gun in a backpack, a toddler shot his father

According to local authorities, a two-year-old boy accidently shot and killed his father after his parents left a loaded rifle unsecured.

Reggie Mabry, 26, was found on the ground with a gunshot wound. His wife Marie Ayala was conducting CPR when police arrived at their home in east Orlando on May 26.

Reggie was subsequently died in a hospital. He was initially thought to have shot himself, according to law police.

However, the eldest of the couple’s three children eventually told investigators the truth.  His two-year-old sibling had squeezed the trigger, according to Orange County Sheriff John Mina.

Reggie left the rifle in a bag that was “not properly secured and easily accessible.”

According to court filings, the child found the pistol, and shot his father in the back. While, he was playing a computer game.

When the incident occurred, all five members of the family, including a five-month-old girl, were in the same room.

According to the sheriff, both parents were on parole at the time for multiple counts of child negligence and drug usage.

Mina said, he couldn’t ‘stress strongly enough’ the importance of keeping guns’ secured and out of the hands and out of the reach of youngsters at all times.’

‘Gun owners who fail to secure their firearms correctly are just a split second away from one of these tragedies occurring in their homes,’ he added.

‘These little children have now basically lost both parents.”

‘Their father is no longer alive. Their mother is in prison, and a young child must go through childhood knowing that his father was murdered.’
